Rest as a strategy to reaching goals, why having a messy desk leads to creativity + more

As a professional with multiple income streams, you are probably no stranger to working hard - very, very hard. You’re used to using your skills and experience, as well as your sheer determination, to break down walls and move mountains.

As a professional with multiple income streams, you are probably no stranger to working hard - very, very hard. You’re used to using your skills and experience, as well as your sheer determination, to break down walls and move mountains.

I’m not here to weigh in on hustle or anti-hustle culture - you have X for that, and frankly, I think there’s a time and a place for both. I’m just here to say: even superheroes need breaks.

The data backs this up unequivocally, and the sages of the main religions knew it too - giving even the land a break in the form of a shmita/ sabbatical every 7 years.

We all obsess about optimizing ourselves and reaching peak efficiency with our hours (guilty!) but the truth is, we’re not machines or robots.

And while you may recognize the value of a full month break or a vacation, it may not be logistically or financially feasible. There are some very real limitations that may hamper even the best-laid “vacation” plans.

Here’s a reminder that it doesn’t have to be extravagant. A walk in the woods, a day fully offline, a summer Friday tradition, or a weekend in a nearby town are just as magical.

Find the kind of break that makes sense to you in your current context, and then commit to making it happen.

Your income streams and growth goals will still be here when you come back - and I promise they’ll be easier to tackle then, too ❤️

DON’T MISS OUT

My bookmarks from the week - good reads, listens, and general inspo from all around.

🖥️ To be creative, have a messy desk; to be orderly and process-oriented, tidy it up - I loved this read on the effect of where you get your work done.

🎤 This talk on empowering creators to own their audience was a highlight of NYC Tech Week and well worth the hour to watch the replay.

🪨 I’m such a sucker for parables that nail the point: you choose your own worth and determine your value, from the POV of a child trying to sell a stone.

👏 Instead of saying “congratulations!” to celebrate your people, consider this subtle tweak.

🧶 The Japanese concept of Ikigai is having a moment, and this visual on it is the best I’ve seen - peep the yellow string.
