Excitement is a better motivator than discipline, how to communicate missing deadlines + more

It’s a very big week for us here at BCM: we officially opened the new BCM Club - an expansion on what we kicked off in Beta in January. This time, we’re 70+ people strong (and not just any people, absolutely amazing incredible humans who are crushing it in dayjobs and side hustles).

It’s a very big week for us here at BCM: we officially opened the new BCM Club - an expansion on what we kicked off in Beta in January. This time, we’re 70+ people strong (and not just any people, absolutely amazing incredible humans who are crushing it in day jobs and side hustles).

While I was gushing over introductions in the introductions channel, I got all in my feels about starting things - I know sometimes even getting to the starting line is hard, but once we do– we’re full of the first-day-of-school excitement and energy. We’re giddy and excited, telling everyone we know about our new thing.

And while the high of this is incredible and also quite addictive, I found myself wondering about the role of excitement in reaching our goals. Is it good to be so excited and let our feelings move us forward, or should we rely on systems and discipline?

That’s when I was scrolling X and saw the perfect reminder from James Clear: Excitement is a better motivator than discipline.

So maybe we embrace our excitement and let it carry us. And when it starts to wane, we search deep for things to be excited about and look forward to. It’s not always easy, but maybe a goal of ours should be to do our best to find the joy in our work and our big business goals.

Easier said than done, I know, but certainly something to try on for size when the first-day-of-school excitement starts to wane - whether in your day job, side hustle, or passion project ❤️

LIVE FROM BIG CASH MONEY

Big Cash Money (lovingly called BCM) is a community of multihyphenates - professionals who are building multiple income streams, often alongside a day job.

📋 As things kicked off this week in the new BCM Club cohort, we had a busy first Monday Async with members sharing their revenue goals and plans for the week.

📦 We placed an order for an A+ swag surprise that’s coming to the mailboxes of new BCM Club members.

👯 We hosted two BCM Club mixers this morning - live, for members to get to know each other. They were so much fun.
